Do I need to register with UNIC Athens Library?

University students and full-time faculty are automatically registered with the library. Whereas part-time faculty need to bring their current employment slip (from HR) and complete the library registration form. The library will issue the faculty member with a library ID card. Is there internet/ WiFi service in the library?

The library provides computers, which are connected to the internet.

Free wireless access (WiFi) is available in any part of the library.

 

How do I access electronic resources?

You have access to all electronic resources through our Library Website 24 hours a day, 7 days a week on and off-campus. Please see Off-Campus Access on the Library Website for more information. Please note, your UNIC email and password are required to access electronic resources.

 

How do I borrow a book?

Click on Borrowing Information, on the Library Website.

 

How can I obtain a copy of an item that cannot be loaned out?

Photocopiers are available in the library. Copies can be made either in Black and white or in colour. For more information, please contact the Circulation Desk: library.athens@unic.ac.cy

 

How do I avoid fines?

Click on Borrowing Information, on the Library Website.

 

What happens if I lose or damage a library book?

If you damage or lose an item, please report it immediately to the Circulation Desk by email library library.athens@unic.ac.cy or by telephone +30 211 4447122.

In the case of damage, you will be asked to cover the cost of its repair or its replacement. Alternatively, if item is lost you be asked to cover the cost of its replacement and an additional processing fee of €17.

 

What happens if my personal details change or I am moving abroad?

Members of the library must notify the library of any changes to their personal details. You can contact the Circulation Desk by email library.athens@unic.ac.cy or by telephone +30 211 4447122.

If you are moving abroad, please return all items borrowed before you move. This is to ensure no fines are incurred.

 

How do I perform searches (print and electronic resources)?

Go on our Library website and click on library search box (UNIC Primo), which enables you to search most of the library's individual databases for print books, electronic books, electronic articles, electronic journals and more from a single search box.

Alternatively, to search in individual databases, please go to eCollections (A-Z). For further instructions on performing searches can be found on Distance Learning Guide webpage.

 

How do I access electronic resources when I am not on university campus?

When performing you search a dialog box (labelled OpenAthens) may appear when you click on a database or the full-text link.

Within the dialog box click on your status (student, faculty, staff, etc).

You will be directed to a login page where you will need your UNIC email and password (the one given to you by the university).

You will be redirected to back to the resource Further instruction can be found on the Off-Campus Access webpage.

If I am not a student or faculty/staff, can I access library e-resources?

Unfortunately, electronic resources are only available to the UNIC community.

What should I do if I have a reference question?

What if the library does not have the item I need for my research?

Use our Interlibrary Loan Service (ILL) by emailing the full reference details of the item you need to ill@unic.ac.cy.

 

Is the library open during Public Holidays?

No, the library is closed during all public holidays but this does not affect your access to electronic resources. Please see Off-Campus Access on the Library Website for more information.

How can I contact a Librarian?

The library provides ongoing support for the use of electronic resources, renewing books, general queries and support for your research. You can contact us, either by:
