How to Borrow

Your academic ID card must always be presented when borrowing or renewing materials. The card is personal and may not be used by anyone else.

Items can be borrowed at the Circulation Desk or via the Self-Check Machine using your academic ID card.

The due date is stamped at the back of each book, and it is your responsibility to return or renew items on time.


Returning Your Loans

Items must be returned on or before the due date to either:

· The Circulation Desk

· or via the Self-Check Machine


Renewing Your Loans

1. At the Circulation Desk (Present the books together with your academic ID card)

2. Online via Library website

3. via the Self-Check Machine

Items may be renewed online 1 day before the due date.

  • Open the library website
  • Click My Library Account
  • Select your status, e.g., UNIC Faculty & Staff
  • Enter your UNIC email and password
  • Click on your name in the top right corner
  • In the submenu, click on My Loans
  • Select the item to be renewed and then click Renew
  • Confirm that the new due date is updated

Important Notes on Renewals:

· Items may be renewed online up to 3 times.

· If renewal is not possible, it may be because:

  • The item is overdue
  • A hold request has been placed by another user
  • The item has already been renewed 3 times
  • Renewal is attempted near the end of the semester
  • Reserve Collection items cannot be renewed online

If your items are overdue, your books cannot be renewed and should be returned to the Circulation Desk.

Overdue Items

Items not returned or renewed by the due date are considered overdue and should immediately be returned to the Circulation Desk.

Users are advised to regularly check the status of their loans via My Account on the library website.

  • Open the library website
  • Click My Library Account
  • Select your status, e.g., UNIC Faculty & Staff
  • Enter your UNIC email and password
  • Click on your name in the top right corner
  • In the submenu, click on My Loans


Hold Requests

If an item is currently on loan, you may place a hold request:

  • Open the library website
  • Click My Library Account
  • Select your status, e.g., UNIC Faculty & Staff
  • Enter your UNIC email and password
  • Locate the item using the large search box on the library website
  • Click on the title of the book
  • In the Get It section, click on Request and enter the Pickup Date (the date you wish to borrow the book) and comments.
  • Click on Send Request

The request will appear in your library account. The request can be cancelled in your account by clicking on the tab Request and then on cancel on the specific book row.

You will be notified by phone or email when the item becomes available.

Items on hold will be kept for 2 days after being returned by previous user. If not collected, they will be returned to the collection.


Recalls

The library reserves the right to recall any item if urgently required.

If an item is recalled:

  • The borrower will be notified by phone or email
  • A new due date will be assigned
  • The item must be returned within 2 days
