Configuration Directions for Google Chrome

For remote access to the UNIC Library electronic resources*

 

  1. Open Google Chrome
  2. Click “Customize and Control Google Chrome” button (top-right corner)
  3. Select “Settings
  4. Scroll down and click “Advanced
  5. Under the section System, click “Open proxy settings
  6. Select the “Connections” tab and click on the “LAN Settings” button
  7. Make sure both “Automatically detect settings” and “Use automatic configuration script” are unchecked
  8. Check the “Use a proxy server for your LAN” box
  9. In the box following “Address” type: proxy.unic.ac.cy
  10. In box following “Port” type: 8080
  11. Click “OK” in both windows (don't just close them)
  12. Close the Settings tab
  13. The proxy server responds with a login window (if not, refresh/ reload your page), insert your:
    • Username: Student ID number (e.g. U000N0010) or Library User ID (for staff)
    • Password: date of birth in reverse order yyyymmdd (e.g. 19870218)

 

When approved, you will be able to access all of the Library’s e-resources available at www.library.unic.ac.cy  (i.e. Library Search, Databases, E-Journals, and E-books).

When you have finished searching Library e-resources, be sure to go back to the settings window (Steps 1-6), check the “Automatically detect settings” box and uncheck the “Use a proxy server for your LAN” box. Click “OK” to close both windows and close the settings tab.
