Configuration Directions for MAC Browsers

For remote access to the UNIC Library electronic resources*

 

  1. Choose “Apple menu > System Preferences
  2. Click on “Network
  3. Choose the network you use from the list (e.g. Wifi) and click “Advanced…
  4. Select the “Proxies” tab
  5. Check the “Web Proxy (HTTP)” box
    1. In the “Web Proxy Server” fields appeared on the right type: proxy.unic.ac.cy  :  8080
    2. Select the “Proxy server requires password” checkbox and insert your:
      • Username: Student ID number (e.g. U000N0010) or Library User ID (for staff)
      • Password: date of birth in reverse order yyyymmdd (e.g. 19870218)
  6. Check the “Secure Web Proxy (HTTPS)” box
    1. In the “Secure Web Proxy Server” fields appeared on the right type: proxy.unic.ac.cy  :  8080
    2. Select the “Proxy server requires password” checkbox and insert your:
      • Username: Student ID number (e.g. U000N0010) or Library User ID (for staff)
      • Password: date of birth in reverse order yyyymmdd (e.g. 19870218)
  7. All of the other boxes under “Select a protocol to configure” should be unchecked
  8. Click “OK” and then “Apply
  9. Close “Network” tab
  10. Open Safari (or other browser)

Open the Library’s website www.library.unic.ac.cy  and you should be able to access all the available e-resources (i.e. Library Search, Databases, E-Journals, and E-books).

When you have finished searching Library e-resources, be sure to go back to the Proxies tab (Steps 1-4) and uncheck all of the boxes under “Select a protocol to configure”. Click “OK”, then “Apply” and close the “Network” tab.
